Our dream as a community is to see God’s future world begin to emerge here and now.

Both by planting and cultivating a vibrant network of house churches where people can experience a deeply formative life together in the family of faith as well as by creating a rich liturgical space on Sunday nights where we can be drawn together into the mystery of Christ Jesus.

In our life together, we find ourselves usually occupying one of three spaces: Our Sunday Gathering, House Churches, and times of equipping.

It is in each of these spaces that our values are lived out and we seek a greater expression of what it means to be the Body Of Christ together, filled with the Spirit of God and sent into our workplaces and neighborhoods to be the peace and love of Jesus to all people.

In each space we encounter the beauty of God. In each space we bring the whole of ourselves to Christ, receiving the fullness of his Spirit. In each space we believe for and work for restoration in all of our world.

House Churches

When the Apostle Paul talked about the “church” in the New Testament, two of the images he used were “The Body of Christ” and “The Family of Faith” (or “the Household of God”).

At Bloom, our notion of House Church is guided in very deep ways by those two images.  We see our House Churches as places where folks can grow  as the very “body” of Christ in the”family of faith”, together being formed by God to become a garden of resurrection through which the world is blessed.

As such, House Churches are not exactly like your typical church “small group”, where the focus is usually on one very specific thing (study or fellowship or discovering your gifts or accountability, etc).  Instead, our intuition has always been that House Churches need to be places where all of the concerns of our spiritual formation are embodied.

What happens in a House Church is what follows from that intuition.

A meal is served…
the family reconnects…
the gathering begins…
thanks is given for all the ways we have seen God at work in our lives…
we engage the Scriptures…
we pray for each other… and for the broken world around us…
we discern what God is doing over and through and around our lives…
…and we are “sent” back into our worlds to be salt and light.

We have found that the ebb and flow of that movement is powerfully formative for us: we are gathered, and then we are scattered and sent.

House Churches are communities of 10 to as many as 40 people which meet regularly for a meal, prayer, and mutual encouragement. They are one of the primary vehicles of our life together, and in them most if not all of our shared commitments find expression. House Churches will often host worship and prayer nights, frequently join together in service to the wider Bloom community and to the city in works of justice and mercy, and are always seeking to deepen their shared life together. They are beautiful, rich expressions of the body of Christ.

House Churches are led in community, consisting of co-leaders, a host, a coordinator, and often a leader-in-training. Every person seeking to become part of the Bloom community is encouraged to attend and eventually settle into a house church, becoming a contributing member. Many of our House Churches incorporate children, and those that do are indicated HERE.

House Churches are also clustered together in what we call “Sections.” Each Section of House Churches has a Section Leader who meets regularly with their House Church Leaders to see how things are going and also to cultivate a shared life in the Section itself, planning worship and prayer nights, social gatherings, and outreach events.

Equipping

We see equipping as the primary way of helping individuals and house churches with holistic formation in the Christian life. To do so we offer a variety of classes on biblical and theological education, personal and relational development, spiritual practices, and leadership trainings. Our hope is that through these offerings - whether placed in their homes, workplaces, or house churches - that each individual and house church would be more aware and responsive to the Holy Spirit's invitation to be beautiful, cruciform, restorative people so that the Kingdom may flourish in our neighborhoods, city, and world.
